Bellwether 2019

PNW Super Soul All-Star Revue

Curated by Jonathan Zwickel

Despite the whiplash changes the Pacific Northwest has endured, the region remains a fertile ground for artists—nurturing an astoundingly diverse music scene. This performance pulls back the curtain on three homegrown surprises, bringing to Bellwether 2019 sounds from the global underground, the city street corner and the hit-making recording studio.

Filthy FemCorps, Seattle’s female/non-binary brass band, will parade from City Hall to Meydenbauer Center Theater to kick off the show, followed by local trio Terror/Cactus playing cinematic, psychedelic electro-cumbia behind homemade masks and eye-popping projections on the theater stage. Headliners Nile Waters are led by Elan Wright and Nima Abbassi, ringmasters at the Ruby Room, a small-but-mighty recording studio on Aurora Blvd. As rhythm section, they’ll be joined by a who’s-who of guest singers, rappers and musicians representing the PNW’s millennial-made soul/hip-hop/pop community, including ParixAlexa, Sol, Travis Thompson, MistaDC, Laza, Otieno Terry and more. It’s a night of music as wildly eclectic as Bellwether’s visual arts offerings and a showcase of the weird and the wonderful that this region is known for.
